Meets with Community Organizations to Educate them on Election Process
Houston, TX On August 8, 2012, Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart met with the leaders of several local and national voter engagement organizations to discuss his office's role in the elections process. My office is open to support organizations that are providing eligible voters the timely and accurate information needed to vote. I take that job very seriously," said Stanart. Organizations present at the meeting included Project Vote, Texas League of Young Voters Education Fund, Mi Familia Vota, NAACP, NALEO Education Fund, and Advancement Project. The County Clerk, along with Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Don Sumners, answered questions about voter registration and volunteer deputy voter registrar training. Stanart provided information on Harris County's Absentee, Early Voting, and Election Day voting. The process of how elections are conducted in Harris County per Texas Election Code and Texas Secretary of State procedures were reviewed. In addition, Clerk Stanart reviewed the process of counting votes and many of the procedures that ensure every eligible voters vote is accurately counted as well as the procedures to safeguard the integrity of the election. County Clerk Stanart emphasized that due to the 2010 Census and redistricting that some voters would have to vote in a different location than they are accustomed to voting for the November 6, 2012 Election. I encourage everyone for the Presidential Election to Vote Early and go to www.HarrisVotes.com for the latest information about voting in Harris County. The County Clerk emphasized that his office follows Texas state and U.S. federal laws while conducting elections in Harris County.
