What is it
Photosynthesis is a chemical process that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, especially sugars, using the energy from sunlight.
Overview
Photosynthetic organisms are photoautotrophs, which means that they are repositories of energy, they are able to synthesize food directly from carbon dioxide, water, and using energy from light. They accrue it as part of their potential energy. However, not all organisms that use light as a source of energy carry out photosynthesis
Discovery
In 1796, Jean Senebier, a Swiss pastor, botanist, and naturalist, demonstrated that green plants consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen under the influence of light. He is the first time who discovers photosynthesis by doing experiment
Equation of photosynthesis
6 CO2 + 12 H2O C6H12O6 + 6 O2 + 6 H2O But because water is both a reactant and a product, the equation can be simplified accounting for net water consumption, which is: 6 CO2 + 6 H2O C6H12O6 + 6 O2Carbon dioxide + Water + Light energy Glucose + Oxygen
Factors
There are three main factors affecting photosynthesis and several corollary factors. The three main are: Light irradiance and wavelength Carbon dioxide concentration Temperature.
Evolution
Early photosynthetic systems, such as those from green and purple sulfur and green and purple nonsulfur bacteria, are thought to have been anoxygenic, using various molecules as electron donors. Green nonsulfur bacteria used various amino and other organic acids. Purple nonsulfur bacteria used a variety of nonspecific organic molecules.
Chloroplast
Chloroplasts are organelles found in plant cells and other eukaryotic organisms that conduct photosynthesis. Chloroplasts are green because they contain the chlorophyll pigment. Chloroplasts are members of a class of organelles known as plastids. It is the one who absorb sunlight.
