SCIENTIFIC THEORIES on the ORIGIN of the EARTH

1. NEBULAR HYPOTHESIS
The Nebular Hypothesis in its original form was proposed by Kant and Laplace in the 18th century. The initial steps are indicated in the following figures.
1734: Emanuel Swedenborg 1755: Immanuel Kant 1796: Pierre-Simon Laplace

In the Nebular Hypothesis, a cloud of gas and dust collapsed by gravity begins to spin faster because of angular momentum conservation

The collapsing, spinning nebula begins to flatten into a rotating pancake

As the nebula collapses further, local regions begin to contract gravitationally on their own because of instabilities in the collapsing, rotating cloud

CAPTURE THEORY
Many of the moons surrounding other planets are really captured asteroids and not objects that formed in placewith the mother planet, or were ejected by the mother planet. The capture theory says that our planets and moons were wandering around in space and the planets were captured by the gravity of our sun, and the moons were captured by the planets. James Jeans (1877-1946)

BIG BANG THEORY

According to the Big Bang model, the Universe expanded from an extremely dense and hot state and continues to expand today. A common analogy explains that space itself is expanding, carrying galaxies with it, like spots on an inflating balloon.
George Lemaitre Carl Wilhelm Wirtz

STEADY STATE THEORY

-also known as the Infinite Universe Theory or Continuous Creation -counterproposal for the Big Bang Theory -Fred Hoyle (1948) - new matter is continuously created as the universe expands but does not change its appearance; no beginning & no end - No longer accepted today
