Statement from Assemblyman Felix Ortiz Warning Residents Of the 51st Assembly District in Brooklyn of a Lottery Ticket Scam

That has Cost its Victims Thousands of Dollars from Their Life Savings

I am urging the residents of the 51st Assembly District to be on guard for a lottery ticket scam circulating in our neighborhoods. The scammers, three men and woman of Hispanic decent, are targeting Hispanic women in their 60s to whom they offer to sell, for many thousands of dollars, a winning lottery ticket with a fake prize value of more than a million dollars. For many of the victims, they handed over their life savings in exchange for a phony lottery ticket. The presence of these con artists operating in our community is very disturbing, and I am working closely with NYPDs 72nd Precinct to apprehend these individuals and crack down on this type of despicable activity. I am doing everything I can to ensure that these swindlers, who are taking advantage of our hard working residents and vulnerable seniors, are apprehended and brought to justice. The first scam occurred on June 11, on 46th Street and Fourth Avenue and the most recent incident occurred on August 3, on 39th Street and Fourth Avenue. Our residents must remember the old adage that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Be smart. Dont become a victim of this scam. Anyone who has information about this criminal activity should contact the 72nd Precincts Detective Squad at (718) 965-6336.
