But, they confronted you with injustice and aggression. wa wjahka bi-ulmi wal 3udwn,

[ ] Therefore, you resisted them after advising them and stressing over (divine) proofs against them. fa jhadtahum ba3dal '3zi lahum [al-3di 'ilayhim] wa ta'kdil ujjati 3alayhim,

However, they violated your (divine) rights and oath. fanakath dhimmaka wa bay3atak,

angered your Lord and your grandfather, wa 'askhau rabbaka wa jaddak,

and initiated battle against you. wa bada'ka bil arb,

Hence, you stood firm to spear and strike, fa thabatta li-a3ni wah-harb,

pulverized the soldiers of the transgressors, and stormed (courageously) into the dust of the battle, wa aanta jundal fujjr, waqtaamta qasalal ghubr,

fighting with Thulfaqar as if you were Ali, the chosen one. mujlidan bidhil faqr, ka'annaka 3aliyunil mukhtr,

So when they saw you firm, fearless, and courageous, fallamm ra'awka thbital jsh, ghayra kh'ifin wa l khsh,

they set up their most malicious deceptions against you, and fought you with their deceit and viciousness. naab laka ghaw'ila makrihim, wa qtaluka bikaydihim wa sharrihim,

The accursed one (Umar Ibn Sad) commanded his soldiers, and thus, they prevented you from reaching or receiving water. wa 'amaral-la3nu jundahu, famana3kal m'a wa wurdah,

They rushed to engage you in combat, descended swiftly upon you, wa njazkal qitl wa 3jalkan-nizl,

showering you with arrows and stones, wa rashaqka bis-sihmi wan-nibl,

Neither they respected your rights, nor were they mindful of retribution for slaying you and your companions, and plundering your belongings. wa lam yar3aw laka dhimm, wa l rqab fka 'athm, f qatlihim 'awliy'ak, wa nahbihim rilak,
You were in the front line of the storm (of battle), enduring afflictions. wa 'anta muqqaddamun fil habawt, wa mutamilun lil adhiyyt,

Indeed, the angels of the heavens were astonished by your patience. qad 3ajibat min abrika mal'ikatus-samawt,

The enemy then surrounded you from all sides, fa 'adaq bika min kullil jiht,

and you had no helper remaining. wa lam yabqa laka nir,

You were bereaved yet patient, wa 'anta mutasibun bir,

defending your women and children, tadhubbu 3an niswatika wa 'awldik,

until they caused you to fall from your horse. att nakaska 3an jawdik,

You fell to the ground, wounded, fa hawayta 'ilal 'arhi jar,

horses trampled you with their hooves, taa'ukal khuylu biawfirih,
www.ymaonline.org
tyrants raised their swords against you, wa ta3lka-ughtu bibawtirih,
www.ymaonline.org
the sweat of death appeared on your forehead, qad rashaa lil mawti jabnuk,

and you continually clenched and unclenched your hands, wakhtalafat bil inqibhi wal inbisi shimluka wa yamnuk,

secretly gazing upon your caravan and tents, tudru arfan khafiyyan 'il ralika wa baytik,

while trapped by yourself away from your children and family. wa qad shughilta binafsika 3an wuldika wa 'ahlk,

(At that time,) your horse distractedly galloped towards your camp, neighing and crying. wa 'asra3a farasuka shridan, 'il khiymika qidan, muamiman bkiy,

When the women saw your horse distraught, falamm ra'aynan-nis'u jawdaka makhziyy,
www.ymaonline.org
and observed your saddle contorted, wa naarna sarjaka 3alayhi malwiyy,

they came from the tents, barazna minal khudr,
www.ymaonline.org
disheveling their hair, nshirtish-shu3r,
www.ymaonline.org
striking their now unveiled cheeks, 3alal khuddi limtil wujhi sfirt,

calling you by lamenting and wailing, wa bil 3awli d3iyt,
www.ymaonline.org
being humiliated after being honored, wa ba3dal 3izzi mudhallalt,
www.ymaonline.org
hastening to where you lay wounded. wa 'il mara3ika mubdirt,

At that time Shimr (L) was sitting on your chest, wash-shimru jlisun 3al adrik,

quenching his sword with (the blood of) your throat, mlighon sayfahu 3al narik,
www.ymaonline.org
grabbing your beard with his hand, qbihun 3al shaybatika biyadih,
www.ymaonline.org
as he slew you with his sword. dhbiun laka bimuhannadih,
www.ymaonline.org
Your faculties faded, qad sakanat awsuka,
www.ymaonline.org
your breath became shallow and ceased, wa khafiyat 'anfsuka,
www.ymaonline.org
and your head was raised onto a spear. wa rufi3a 3alal qanti ra'suka,

Your family were captured like slaves, wa subiya 'ahluka kal 3abd,
www.ymaonline.org
bound with iron chains atop camels, wa uffid fil addi fawqa 'aqtbil maiyyt,
www.ymaonline.org
with midday heat scorching their faces. talfau wujhahum arrul hjirt,
www.ymaonline.org
They were driven across deserts and wastelands, yusqna fil barr wal falawt,
www.ymaonline.org
with their hands chained to their necks, 'aydhim maghllatun 'ilal 'a3nq,
www.ymaonline.org
and were paraded around the markets. yufu bihim fil 'aswq,
www.ymaonline.org
Woe be unto the wicked transgressors! fal waylu lil 3util fussq,
www.ymaonline.org
Certainly, by killing you, they have killed Islam, laqad qatal biqatlikal islm,

disrupted (the truth of) prayer and fasting, wa 3aalu-alta wa-iym,
www.ymaonline.org
revoked the (prophetic) customs and the (divine) laws, wa naqahus-sunana wal 'akm,

destroyed the pillars of faith, wa hadam qaw3idal 'mn,
www.ymaonline.org
distorted the verses of the Quran, wa arraf ytil qur'n,
www.ymaonline.org
and brutally rushed into tyranny and aggression. wa hamlaj fil baghyi wal 3udwn,
www.ymaonline.org
Certainly, (by this event,) the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) was wronged, left alone, and denied vengeance,
laqad 'abaa raslul-lhi allal-lhu 3alayhi wa lihi mawtr,
the Book of Allah, the mighty and the majestic, was again abandoned, wa 3da kitbul-lhi 3azza wa jalla mahjr,

The announcer of your martyrdom came near the grave of your grandfather, the Messenger (PBUH&HF), faqma n3ka 3inda qabri jaddikar-rasli, allallhu 3layhi wa lih,

The Angels and the prophets offered their condolences to him for your martyrdom, wa 3azzhu bikal mal'ikatu wal 'anbiy',

Legions of favored Angels came in waves to offer their condolences to your father, the Leader of the Faithful, wakhtalafat jundul mal'ikatil muqarrabn, tu3azz 'abka 'amral mu'minn,

Mourning commemorations were held for you in the utmost exalted place Heaven, wa 'uqmat lakal ma'timu f 'a3l 3illiyyn,

The skies and their inhabitants wept, wa bakatis-sam'u wa sukknuh,

as did Paradise and its keepers, wal jinnu wa khuzznuh,

the mountains and their surroundings, wal hihbu wa 'aqruh,

the oceans and their fishes, wal biru wa tnuh,

the heavens and their servants, wal jinnu wa wildnuh,
www.ymaonline.org
the House (Kaba), and the Station (of Abraham), wal baytu wal maqm,

the Sacred Monument, wal mash3arul arm,

and Mecca and its sanctuary. wal illu wal irm,

O Allah! By the sanctity of this exalted place (the tomb of Imam al-Husain (PBUH)), allhumma fabiurmati hadhal maknil munf,
