Talking system for the Blind

Block Diagram:

RTC

Summary: The project is a talking instrument for the visually impaired people. The objective is met without using any speech playback ICs or subsystems. The project interfaces a temperature sensor and ultrasonic sensor measures the temperature and ultrasonic sensor will tell obstacle and also depth. The voltage from the sensor is sampled using the onboard ADC of the ARM Microcontroller. The value of the temperature and distance is spoken out by the system using stored voice samples of numbers and other words. The system uses the onboard audio amplifier and speaker available on the ARM evaluation board. Only an external RC

filter is required. The system uses a novel voice encoding method. In principle it would be possible to create a talking thermometer using one of the ISD voice recordings and playback chip together with a controller, but using this approach, the advantage of a single chip solution would be lost. The current ARM solution due to the highly integrated nature of the ARM7CORE chip allows an almost single chip solution (not counting the audio amplifier) that can be built with real tight space and power constraints as well as being a low cost solution. Also. Our system will tell current time for them. Our project is portable
