INTRODUCTION
In todays competitive market place every employer faces the challenge of attracting, developing, and retaining the best employees. Therefore, through systematic training make them productive and responsive employees at the earliest. Govt. has ambitious target of developing higher skill level during 12th plan and it is important for ATI Chennai to attract best employees and upgrade their skill level through systematic training. Besides training them it is also necessary to develop tools for testing and assessing the skill level of artisans after training to assess the effectiveness of training. Training, testing and skill assessment should also help the industry in deployment of new artisans keeping in view the level of skill needed in particular work area. Artisans are the foundation of organizational functioning. Their skill proficiency, intelligence to work and the adaptability to industry culture & values and pro-activeness are essential. A comprehensive training programme has now been prepared on the basis of feedback and discussions with industries.
