2012 - 9329 Quick actions of Mission RCMP avert dangerous party

Mission
Shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012, members of the Mission RCMP were able to stop the onset of a RAVE that was to take place 15 kms up Lost Lease Forest Road. Information had been received that approximately 1500 people were to attend the RAVE as word spread through social media about the all night party. Mission RCMP attended the unsanctioned event and also set up road blocks to stop all vehicle traffic from attending the site. Once members arrived on scene, they observed approximately 30 people setting up camp and tents. A large stage and sound system was also being erected. First and foremost, public safety was our number one concern. The terrain in this area is very rugged and members witnessed people drinking alcohol. Therefore, the priority was to shut down the event, says Corporal Sharon Siluch. Members stood by while the equipment was dismantled and packed into a large moving van. It was made clear to the organizers and the people who were turned away at the road block that the RCMP do not condone "RAVE's" or any unsanctioned events of this nature.
