1. What is a natural polymer? Explain with an example. How is natural rubber


processed to suit the modern applications? Give its important applications and
structure.

2. What are epoxy resins? What are basic raw materials required for their
production? Explain about their physical and chemical properties. High light their
applications.

3. What type of polymer is polypropylene? Give its structure. Explain about


‘atactic’, ‘isotactic’ and stereoblock type structures of polypropylene. Discuss the
important applications of this polymer.

4. Discuss the effect of molecular size, weight and structure on the properties,
processing and application of product of a polymer. Explain with examples.

5. What are the functions of a plasticizer? What are the types of plasticizers used?
Explain briefly about the plasticization of synthetic rubbers.

6. What is injection moulding? Explain the technique with a simple, single stage
plunger unit. What are the types of machines in operation? Explain how the
plastic is melted in a screw metering.

7. What is vulcanization? How is it carried out? What is its end effect on rubber?
What are ingredients added to improve the properties of rubber?

8. Write briefly on any two of the following:


a) PVC.
b) Methods of polymerization.
c) Effects of solvents and Lubricants.
