Introduction to Weave Designs


Types of looms wrt to shedding motion, Use of point paper to represent weave design, Concept of repeat, Simple designs like plain weave and 3/1 twill.

Tappet: Uses tappets and healds. High speed, best quality, limited designs generally 6 8 frames. Dobby: Uses dobby lifting and healds, relatively low speed and wider variety of designs; unlimited designs capability in weft direction generally 14 20 frames. Jacquard: Individual manipulation of threads by means of cord, unlimited designs and low speed. Drawing in very cumbersome. Plain Weave, where alternate warp threads interlace with alternate weft threads. Top view
