Oil meets about 24% of Indias commercial energy requirements. In 2009, India with a consumption of 3 million barrels per day was the 4th largest oil consumers
After the United States, China, and Japan.

In 2009, India was the 6th largest net importer of oil

importing nearly 2.1 million barrels per day, or about 70 %, of its oil needs as compared with 44 % in 1995

Nearly 70 % of Indias crude oil imports come from the Middle East, primarily from Saudi Arabia, followed by Iran
