Works such as Deor, The Wanderer, The Seafarer, and other poems follows the same basic theme as Beowulf. Vikings Invaders: In 787, The Viking Invasion begins. Crossing the North Sea from Denmark and Norway, at first only a few boats came seeking to plunder coastal monasteries and towns. They established the Danelaw, covering most of central Britain, where Danish law was in force. Normans Invaders: At the Battle of Hastings; 14th October 1066, William, Duke of Normandy defeated the other claimants to the disputed English monarchy. During a lenghty struggle called the Norman Conquest, most of the Anglo-Saxon nobility was wiped out. William redistributed their lands and established a system of land called feudalism.
