ATTITUDES AND JOB SATISFACTION

WHAT IS ATTITUDE?
In general terms, it means positive or negative orientation of a person. It always has a referent i.e., an object towards which positive or negative orientation is applied. It has three components cognitive (knowledge and understanding), affective (feelings) and conative (action).

WORK ATTITUDE
In organizations general meaning to attitude is applied to work.
Work attitudes are reflected in job satisfaction and organizational commitment.

JOB SATISFACTION
It includes various aspects the nature of the job itself, the compensation structure, growth opportunities, opportunities for career advancement, the organizational climate, the behaviour of the seniors and the co-workers, and so on..
It can be increased.

JOB SATISFACTION
Increase the role efficacy, understand the employees needs and ensure it is met in the work assignment, involve the person in the work itself by various ways like redesigning the work profile, etc. It leads to improved job performance and retention of the personnel in the organization.

Recruitment policies, placement practices, development schemes are some of the factors which leads to job satisfaction.

ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT
While job satisfaction is mainly concerned with the work a person undertakes in an organization commitment shows the relationship of the individual with the organization.
The stronger the relationship is, the higher the commitment will be.

ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT
It indicates a persons feelings with regard to continuing his/her association with the organization, acceptance of the values and goals of the organization, and willingness to help the organization achieve such goals and values.

ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT
It has three dimensions
- affective commitment (a persons emotional attachment to and identification with the organization) - continuous commitment (the benefits a person sees in continuing with the organization)

- normative commitment (willingness of the person to stay with the organization because it is considered a good thing to do)
