1. It helps us stay informed about the world which inspires us to make a change and solve problems 2.

It helps us understand other cultures and their way of life which helps us understand and become more tolerant of people different from us. 3. The past is what brought us here today. It shaped us into who we are and how we live. 4. It helps us understand the economy and how it affects our lives. 5. Keeping an eye on international events helps us understand how and why other governments are acting and how that affects our own government. 6. Its important because we need to know the structure of our government and how it works. Without it we cannot learn how to elect our leaders.

1. Theres more to living in the now and we need to respect people and events that came before us because they shaped todays world. The past created the present and the present will create the future. 2. Learning about and understanding others helps us become tolerant of people who are different from us and shows the contributions they have made. 3. Paying attention to current events keeps us informed and allows us to actively participate in discussing the world and making it better. 4. Observing others wise or foolish decisions provides us with positive and negative examples of the Six Pillars of Character. 5. History is constantly changed and revised as new information comes to light. Its not set in stone. 6. It teaches us to be critical thinkers and evaluate whats being said and by whom so we can determine if anybody is biased or has an agenda. Are they saying things for a reason? 7. It proves that all actions and decisions have consequences. 8. To show us that an individual or group of people can change the world. 9. To help us learn reading and writing strategies that improves our critical thinking. 10. To evaluate opposing viewpoints, examine the evidence, and make a choice for ourselves.
