SESSION PLAN

LEVEL: SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS SUBJECT: SCIENCE SESSIONS 4 sessions. 2 Practical y 2 Theorical.

OBJECTIVES: Get the importance of having olive oil. Recognize the importance of recycling oils. Recuperate the traditional method for preparing homemade soap. Develop attitudes of respect for the environment that promote the conservation of nature both students and families. Explain the use and manufacture of soap in different historical moments. BASIC COMPETENCIES: Competency in autonomous learning and personal initiative. Competency in learning to learn. Competency in linguistic communication

LANGUAGE: Oil , soap , caustic soda, distilled water ,essence, lavender, lemon, rosemary.

MATERIALS: Three litres of used oil. Three litres of water( water of the rain or soft water.) 500 g of caustic soda (it is important that it has without humidity and it is pure).

OPENING ACTIVITIES: A theoretical phase where we discuss the importance of oil olive on the Mediterranean diet and give a short information of the history of the soap.

MAIN ACTIVITIES : ELABORATION OF SOAP WITH RECYCLED OIL. SESSION 1: The elaboration of any soap is a simple process, but we must be very careful with one of its components: soda (you can be burnt ). Make it in open, with gloves and glasses when you dissolve soda . It can produce an emanation of dangerous gases. Put the water in a container and dissolves the soda carefully. When you have finished of rid, add the used oil little by little and stir with a wooden stick . It will be solidifying, getting similar to the mayonnaise. Put the edge of the stick into the soap. If the stick is clean , it means that the soap is ready. . Put the soap in a bowl and let it to be hard one or two days. Cut it into cubes and let them dry

SESSION PLAN

Session 2: Remove the soap from the molds (strong plastic or wood). It is easier if we cover them with a little flour. There are different variants that are introduced in step 3. I.e. You can add you essential oils so you have a good smell. We can also add a handful of salt or flour, a softener plug or a few drops of Indigo to bluish.

CLOSING ACTIVITIES: Assembly for questions: What did you learn with this activity? What differences are between this soap and a normal one? Exhibition and sale to the rest of the school ,families of the elaborate soap is done.
