YEAR 11 SAP PROGRAMME: FUNCTIONAL ENGLISH AND COMMUNICATION

TAKING A CAR TO A GARAGE & CHANGING A TYRE


Assessed Learning Outcomes: Students will: Learn/review vocabulary and phrases associated with taking a car to the garage/repairs/changing a tyre Sequence and label a story about taking a car to the garage Watch a video about changing a tyre and sequence associated tasks

Task 1 Language/Skills Focus Advance Teacher Preparation Suggested no. of Periods Suggested Teaching Sequence Vocabulary items Acquire visual aids, e.g. photos, pictures, vocabulary/ flash cards 1-2 periods Taking a car to the garage: Unit vocabulary/phrases Elicit vocabulary (where possible) Class discussion, e.g. garages/mechanics in ___. Teach vocabulary via PowerPoint, flash cards, visual aids, games, etc. Differentiated Assessment tasks Match words to pictures with varying levels of support

Task 2 Procedural text (sequencing of steps), simple past tense Pre-teach/review required vocabulary and phrases. Copies of worksheets, scissors, glue, etc. 1-2 periods Taking a car to the garage: Sequencing and labelling task Review vocabulary/phrases Explain that students are going to sequence a story 1) with pictures 2) with past tense verbs 3) with sentences Task can be differentiated by providing students with varying levels of support, e.g. cut and paste vocabulary; words/sentences with blanks; words from a list Sequence story using correct pictures and sentences

Task 3 Procedural text (sequencing of steps) Acquire visual aids, e.g. photos, pictures, vocabulary/flash cards Copies of worksheets, scissors, glue, etc. 1-3 periods Changing a car tyre: Review vocabulary, watch video and complete worksheet Review vocabulary/phrases for changing a tyre Watch a video how to change a car tyre http://www.videojug.com/film/how-tochange-a-tyre Complete worksheet tasks (labelling, sequencing etc) Sequence the process of changing a car tyre
