The Life of Jesus I. Birth A. Jesus was born in Bethlehem at 6 BCE 1. Born from the Virgin Mary 2.

Father is Joseph 3. As a result of his birth, King Herod ordered the death of children age two or younger. 4. Fled to Egypt to avoid King Herod II. Life A. Teachings 1. Jesus went throughout the Israel and other places to teach of the Gospel 2. Jesus taught of love and kindness to the people 3. Taught of the Beatitudes - Blessing listed by Jesus during the Sermon at the Mount 4. Told parables to help people better understand the religion - The Good Samaritan 5. Performed many miracles to establish to people that he is the Son of God 6. Anointed 12 disciples to follow him and assist his teachings B. Pharisees 1. Jesus had a bad relationship with the Pharisees - Jesus associated himself with pagans and people shunned from the Pharisee group a. Tax collectors, prostitutes, etc. - Pharisees tended to avoid people against the law 2. Pharisees constantly questioned Jesus teachings - Jesus also questioned the Pharisees adherence to the strict law a. Asked about its intentions - Jesus taught that true righteousness comes from the inward spirit III. Death - 30 A.D. A. Crucifixion 1. Pharisees, jealous of Jesus growing popularity, decided to crucify him for acting like the Son of God 2. Took him to Pilate to receive final decision - Pilate washed his hands in front of the crowd and said that he is not responsible for whatever happens 3. Crucified Jesus at the cross 4. Cross is a symbol for forgiveness and compassion
