Pamela Huseby READ 3302 650 I located my books from Amazon.com which had a fairly good selection of books.

I chose two informational texts, one realistic fiction chapter book, one non-fiction, and two fiction genres. These books tie together or extend the original literature circle book, Here Comes the Garbage Barge, by giving students the opportunity to investigate a man-made ecological disaster, other dangers facing the Earth, insects that may be problematic in regards to garbage and in other situations, investigation of the wind, other types of boats on the sea, sea creatures, and a fictional story that relates directly to one of the vocabulary words in the story, dawn. Books Bauer, M. (2003). Wind. New York, NY: Aladdin Paperbacks. This is a non-fiction book that describes the wind. (Grades 2-3). Benoit, P (2011). The Exxon Valdez oil spill. NewYork, NY: Childrens Press: Scholastic. This is an informational text that explains exactly what happened before, during, and after the oil spill. This text includes colorful pictures and a glossary of important terms (Grades 3-6). Capeci, A. (2001). The magic school bus chapter book: Insect invaders. New York, NY: Scholastic. This is a realistic fiction chapter book that describes insects in informational ways in a story book format (Grades 3-5). Osborne, M. (2008). Dark day in the deep sea. New York, NY: Random House. This is a fictional story about two children who go on a hunt for the key to happiness which, ultimately, leads them to a sea monster (Grades 3-5). Osborn, M. (2008). The knight at dawn. New York, NY: Random House. This is a fictional story about two children who travel in a magic tree house to a castle. A knight allows them to ride with him on their journey back home (Grades 3-4). Waters, K. (2009). Earth in danger. New York, NY: Scholastic. This is an informational text that describes some of the environmental challenges the Earth faces to include global warming, pollution, and the importance of recycling. A glossary of important words is included in this book (Grades 3-5).
