September 13, 2012 Dear Suporter, We are proud to announce the Roots of Comedy Jewish Heritage Project. Jewish people comprise less than 2% of the U.S. population, yet a clear majority of American humorists are Jewish. Roots of Comedy will explore this worthy subject with todays best and brightest humorists in search of definitive answers to these compelling questions: Why do so many comedians and comedy writers come from Jewish stock? What is it that compels a large number of American Jews to be in the humor field? These questions lie at the heart of the Roots of Comedy Project. We are seeking support from Jews and non-Jews alike in order to film insightful interviews with many of the comedy giants who gave American humor its heart and soul. We plan to produce three 30-minute professional movies. These three movies will cost about $26,000 each for a total of $78,000. If we are able to raise more than our $78k Kickstarter goal during the 30-day campaign, we will produce additional movies at the same $26k incremental price. Once the movies are finalized, they will be of sufficient quality and resolution to play on network television as a series of half hour shows, or to be woven together into one feature-length documentary for movie theaters. But most importantly, we will have recorded and preserved the Jewish Influence on American Comedy as never beforefor this and future generations.
