INTRODUCTION Objectives The purpose of the experiment was to learn how use MICRO-CAP, a circuit simulating program.

The objectives included were to learn how to draw and edit circuits, learn to use AC analysis the find a circuits frequency response. Other objectives included learning how to use transient analysis to find transient response and amplitude limitations within a circuit. Finally, the objectives included learning Monte Carlo analysis, and how to obtain statistical information about variations of circuit characteristics with respecting to their components. EQUIPMENT MICRO-CAP on a pc. QUESTIONS How do you select a component type to place in a circuit? Click on its icon. How can you edit the values of a circuit component after it has been placed in the circuit? Select the component, double click on it, and manually change its value from the menu that appears. How can you delete a component? Press select, drag a bog around the component, and press delete.

What information about your circuit do you need before running AC or transient analysis? Resistance and frequency ranges. What limits have to be changed in the AC analysis limits window? X-range and Y-range. What limits may have to be changed in the transient analysis window? Range of X-values. What kind of information can you obtain about your circuit from AC analysis? Frequency response. What kind of information can you obtain about your circuit from transient analysis? X&Y limits (Amplitude limitations) and a since wave of AC Voltage source. What kind of information can you obtain from the circuit drawing window, after you return from one of the analysis runs? AC: Nothing new. Transient: Voltages. CONCLUSION All in all, this was a good exercise in understanding how MICRO-Cap can be used, and what its boundaries are. We saw how different analysis techniques can be implemented (transient and AC) and how we were able to manipulate them. We were also introduced to Monte Carlo analysis, which basically was inserting a random factor.
