The Mobile Internet is finally here, and it appears at the moment, it will operate in a different fashion than the wired Internet. What sociotechnical imaginaries inform the current structure of the mobile Internet in the United States and Europe? This talk offers a comparative analysis of modern U.S. and European mobile wireless policy. It traces the emergence of digital wireless infrastructure from the early circuit switched heritage to the current project of fully packet switched networks.
