In our class this week
We continued to practice our routines and procedures. We are building a wonderful positive classroom community! In reading this week the students worked on letter identification, beginning sounds, punctuation recognition (periods, question marks, and exclamation points) and why they are used. The students also learned their first high frequency word, the word I. We searched for it in different texts and read sentences with the word I in them. The students also were given their first homework assignment this week. They need to read the book(s) sent home to you. Some of the books do not have any text in them. They need to read the story to you using the pictures. We worked hard on this task this week. We learned that there are three ways to read a book. Read the words, retell a familiar story, or look at and read the pictures. The children learned to tell a story with pictures using complete sentences, not just random words naming illustrations! In math we are continuing to count objects and form numerals. In social studies we learned about friends, and in religion we are continuing to learn about the wonderful gifts God has given us.

A Peek at the Week Ahead

Next week will be a short week with no school on Friday. The children will bring home homework on Wednesday. We will learn another high frequency word, continue to work on beginning sounds, upper and lowercase letters, and rhyming. In math we will continue to work on counting and numeral formation as well.
