Basic Grammar Rules 1. A singular subject agrees with a singular verb, a plural subject with a plural verb.

The boy goes. / The boys go. 2. After the word 'to', the verb is in the base form. To love each other. 3. After the following verbs: can, could, will, would, shall, should, may, might, must, do, does, did, the verb must be in a base form. He can swim very well. 4. The words 'but' and 'although' are not to be used in the same sentence. Although she is fat but her husband is thin. 5. If a word is an uncountable noun, the verb has got to be singular. Grass is green. 6. The articles 'a' and 'an' are used only with singular nouns. An apple a day keeps the doctor away. 7. Do not use the word 'most' when the word with an '-est' is used. The boy is the most tallest. / He is the tallest boy. 8. Do not use 'more' when the form '-er' is used The hotel is more cheaper. / The hotel is cheaper. 9. 'This' is to be used with singular nouns and 'These' is to be used with plural nouns. 10. When writing a sentence, do not leave out the verb. I happy. / I am happy. 11. Do not miss out the '-ed' in adjectives. He is a matured man. 12. After the word 'be', the verb must be in the '-ing' form or past participle. I will be going to
