George Christensen MP called for authorities to track down the parents of a toddler seen holding a sign saying "Behead all those who insult the prophet" at a violent Sydney protest. He also said authorities should do the same for the parents of an 8-year-old who called for jihad at a radical conference. Christensen argued that children that age should be playing, not calling for violence or jihad. He stated that if parents are exposing children to religious hatred and violence, the children should be placed in better care, as such circumstances would see a child removed from parents in other situations.

AUTHORITIES should act immediately, without fear or favour, to track down the parents of the weekend protests poster child, according to Federal Member for Dawson, George Christensen. The toddler was pictured holding up a placard reading: Behead all those who insult the prophet at the violent Sydney protests. Mr Christensen also said authorities should do likewise with the parents of eightyear-old Ruqya, who called on the nations youth to join in the jihad at the radical Hizb ut-Tahrir conference in Sydney on the weekend. Kids of this age should be playing hide and seek, not calling for jihad or beheadings, Mr Christensen said. Using a toddler to peddle an incitement to violent killing is disgusting and I think the Australian public would expect the authorities to take up the matter with the parents, he said. If the parents are exposing their children to religious hatred and encouraging violence then perhaps those children should be put in the care of better people. He said the same treatment should apply in this situation as it would apply in any other where a child was exposed to such a violent upbringing. We must question what rights the parents have to bring up a child in a household that actively incites racial or religious hatred and violence or killing. I have no doubt similar circumstances in the wider community would see a child removed from the care of such parents. It would not be tolerated in any other circumstances and it shouldnt be tolerated here. ENDS Monday, 17 September 2012
