KEEN: FULLY FUNDED PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN ARE AN IMPORTANT INVESTMENTS FORT WAYNE Candidate for State Senate, Tom Keen, revealed his support for fully funded pre-kindergarten education for four year old children in Indiana and also for permanent funding of full day kindergarten. The upcoming legislative session that begins in January is a budget session and as such Keen advocates for pre-kindergarten and full day kindergarten funding to be a part of the budget discussions. Investing more heavily in our children is critical to the long term educational and economic success in the State of Indiana, said Keen. Sadly, Indiana is one of 11 states that have yet to invest in pre-K. The State of Indiana needs to get its priorities straight. We should focus on the long-term success of our children, and that starts with early childhood education for all Hoosier kids. When the next budget session comes, we need to be committed and ready to fund a $2 million dollar pilot program for pre-K in Indiana. Eventually, fully funded pre-K in Indiana should be standard in our public education system, but this is a strong start continued Keen. Its time to put politics aside and put Hoosier kids first. Keen also supports permanent funding of full day kindergarten and hopes that funding set aside by the General Assembly in the last legislative session to pay for full day kindergarten will become permanent. We need to fully fund kindergarten in our local school districts, says Keen. He advocates treating kindergarten students as full time students to help school districts pay for the full cost of providing critical program. Tom Keen is a resident of Fort Wayne and is running against longtime incumbent David Long in Senate District 16. Tom and his wife Laura have been married for 22 years and have two college aged children. Tom is active in several veteran service organizations; he is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He is also a member of the Military Officers Association of America, United States Naval Institute, and the Fort Wayne Base Community Council. Tom currently serves on the Board of Directors of Fort Waynes Science Central. ###
