IMPORTANCE OF QUALITY IN SAHARA Q SHOP The main objective of the Quality Department is to ensure that the customer receives adulteration-free products. Keeping this in mind, we have adopted Sahara Quality Management System, an integrated approach towards food safety and quality. This approach towa Quality consists of the following functions:1. Quality Control 2. Quality Assurance 1. Quality Control (QC) focuses on meeting requirements of on-line processing parameters and product quality checks at manufacturing/packaging locations, under the following key points: a) Raw Material Testing, b) On-line Process Monitoring and c) Finished Produ addition, QC imparts training to manufacturer/packager on HACCP, Food Safety, General Pest Control, Fumigation, GMP, GHP, etc. 2. Quality Assurance (QA) focuses on verification of quality systems in the entire value chain, as follows: Development and verification of SQMS for all the food categories Staples, Processed Foods, Beverages, Water and Non-Foods. The SQMS manual ensures a hazards (physical, chemical and biological) are eliminated during processing. The manual is based on HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) principles. It covers Process Flow Diagram, Process Description, HACCP Monitoring Plan, Sampling Plan, Quality Ch Lab Testing, Standard Operating Procedures, Process Specific Formats, etc.

Laboratory Set Up We have established seven laboratories across India, of which two are central laboratories and the rest are regional laboratories. The central laboratories, in Delhi (NCR) and Mumbai, have all the latest equipments to test for pesticides, heavy metals, naturally occurrin substances (NOTS) and all kinds of known food adulterants, other than testing for physical, chemical and microbiological parameters. The regional laboratories, in Lucknow, Patna, Kolkata, Nagpur and Hyderabad, have facilities for testing for physical, chemical, microb parameters. Plans are on the anvil to get the central laboratories credited by NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) to gain further confidence of our customers.

Sahara Criteria for Manufacturing/Packaging Location Selection We have a 100-point criteria for manufacturing/packaging location selection, which covers, inter alia, areas related to regulatory requirements, infrastructure, quality control processes, incoming material control, processing control, final product control, cleaning and sa practices, employee hygiene, pest control, training, quality assurance system, warehousing and transportation practices, and others. Only those with an audit score of above 90% are endorsed and certified.
