Year 6 Numeracy Homework

Thursday, 20th September 2012 To be handed in on Tuesday, 25th September 2012

Note the change of day for the homework being handed in. This is to allow you to come to homework club and still get it in on time!
Remember that a copy of the homework is always available online at mrpitts.co.uk!

This week we have looked again at some trickier number sequences and revised adding in columns using both integers and decimal numbers. We also worked a little with calculators, although this homework doesnt need one. Addition is among the four basic Numeracy skills along with subtraction, division and multiplication. Half of the end of year tests usually rely on these skills which is why we place such a huge importance on them. Aside from this, if someone can add, subtract, multiply and divide well without much thought, they are able to move on to much more complex work in the future.

Each week I will try to add a set of revision materials to my website, mrpitts.co.uk. This weeks website revision collection is all about subtraction. Copy and complete these decimal addition sums on the back of the page. Please work in columns like we have done in class. Remember that neat working allows you to spot mistakes much more easily. As well as this, think carefully about the value of each digit when setting the sums out! 1) 3) 5) 7) 4.3 + 2.7 7.58 + 9.51 27.54 + 5.63 3.245 + 9.87 2) 8.12 + 3.14 4) 3.186 + 9.206 6) 78.34 + 66.742 8) 3.323 + 7.689
