Yonkers bringing back crossing-guard program YONKERS The city is reviving its school crossing-guard program that was

s cut from the budget amid a cash crunch two years ago. Mayor Mike Spano plans to announce the restoration of a more cost-effective program for the 2012-13 school year alongside police and school officials at 2 p.m. Friday at P.S. 18 at Park Hill Avenue and Linden Street. The former program was costing the city about $368,000 annually when it fell victim to budget cuts in 2010, his office said. The new program, which uses both paid and volunteer crossing guards, is expected to cost half as much. Nineteen of the 42 crossing-guard posts will be deployed to top priority intersections starting next Monday 9/24. The remaining posts will come online as volunteer positions are filled.
