GCSE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

What will I study? Everyone follows the Edexcel GCSE in Religious Studies. You will study Unit 3 Religion and Life based on a study of Catholic Christianity and Unit 10 Catholic Christianity.

Is this course suitable for me? Most people take the GCSE full course. There may be some pupils who will be entered for the short course ( GCSE) in consultation with their teacher.

How will I be assessed? There is no coursework for this course. You will take both exams at the end of Year 11 with each exam contributing to 50% of the final grade.

What skills will I learn? The ability to identify, investigate and respond to fundamental questions of life raised by human experience. Key Skills of analysis and evaluation of moral and philosophical issues as well as theological issues.

What will I learn about? Unit 3 & 10 each consist of 4 units. In Unit 3 we cover Believing in God, Matters of Life and Death, Marriage and the Family, Religion and Community Cohesion. In Unit 10 we study Beliefs and Values, Community and Tradition, Worship and Celebration, Living the Christian Life.

How is this course relevant to my future career choices? GCSE Religious Studies is a formal academic qualification that is highly regarded by Colleges, Universities and employers alike. It reflects the ability to consider, reflect upon and evaluate different points of view. Religious Studies is a particularly appropriate qualification for those wishing to pursue careers in the police, the armed forces, journalism, teaching, law, nursing, social work to name but a few!
