The Meaning Of Food Preservations


Treating and handling food to slow down the spoilage which cause by microorganisms. Prevent the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi and from turning bad.

Our topic of food preservation is bottling, bottling means:


Are the processes of heating food to preserve them.
The food are stored in an airtight container which prevent microorganisms from getting in. Changes the taste and texture of the food. Nutrients in the food are lost during the process.

Can be stored for two or three years.

Wash the jars and sterilised it. Boil the food to kill the bacteria. Fill the food into the jars. Heat the jars to remove air and seal immediately to prevent new bacteria from entering the jars. The jars are heated under high temperature and pressure to make sure all bacteria are killed. The jars are labelled and packed.

The Advantages Of Preserving Food


Allows food to be kept for a longer period.
Reduces wastage of food. Ensures a constant supply of food. Easy to be stored. Can be transported to places far away from where it is found. Allow food to be exported to foreign markets. Allow humans to enjoy all kinds of food whether they are from other country or breed in own country.

The disadvantages of preserving food

Lost its nutrients in some of the process. Changes the foods texture and taste. Enhances the flavour of the food.
