Example 10: Batch Reactor

The ethylene (E) reacts with benzene (B) to form the desired product ethylbenzene
(EB). There is a consecutive reaction of ethylene (E) with ethylbenzene (EB) that
produces an undesirable product diethylbenzene (DEB). A transalkylation reaction
between benzene and diethyl benzene results ethylbenzene. Reaction scheme is
shown below.

This charge is 100 kmol pure benzene at 300 K and 15 atm.
The continuously pure ethylene at 298 K and 15 atm is fed at a rate of 50
kmol/h.
The reactor starts at 300 K at time equal zero, and the temperature is ramped to
400 K at 10 min. Then it is ramped to 430 K at 20 min and remains at this
temperature for the rest of the 120-min batch.

1. Simulate to generate temperature and composition profiles.
