Freshman Blue stumble in Season Opener

Drops road game to Katy 42-6


The Bearkat Frosh traveled to Katy last Thursday and was met by a well-disciplined Tiger team. The Kats struggled on special teams with their first 2 possessions resulting in a punt return for a touchdown and a blocked punt that was recovered on the 6 yard line. After quickly falling behind 14-0, the Kats continued to struggle and had to punt the ball away on their 3rd possession. Katy took over at midfield and mixed runs and passes, using 6 plays to make the score 21-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. Both teams exchanged punts to start the 2nd quarter as neither offense could gain much yardage. Midway through the quarter, Katy took possession at midfield and used 6 plays to score the 4th TD of the game. After Klein was unable to move the ball the half ended Katy 28 Klein 0. Katy received the opening kickoff of the 2nd half and drove 66 yards to score another TD. Using 7 plays, the touchdown came on a 19 yard carry through the middle of the line. The Kats offense took possession at the 33 yard line and punted the ball away after a short completion and 2 short gains. Katy returned the punt to the Kats 7 yard line where it was 1st and goal. The Kats defense held strong and following a procedure penalty, took over on downs at the 12 yard line. The Kats opened the next possession with a 58 yard completion that moved the ball to the Katy 30 yard line. The next play resulted in a turnover as a halfback pass was intercepted at the goal line and run back to the Kats 35 yard line. The Kats defense forced a fumble on the next play and the Kats had the ball again at the Katy 35 as the 4th quarter began. The Kats gained a 1 st down as Josh Manuel gained 9 yards on 2 carries and a QB sneak gained a first down. On the ensuing 3rd down Kevin Roliard completed a 23 yard pass to Bruce Beeson who carried it down to the 1 yard line. Roliard carried it in for a TD and the score. The PAT was no good and the score was Katy 35 Klein 6. Special team issues continued for the Bearkats as the kickoff was returned for a touchdown to make the final score Katy 42 Klein 6. The next game is at home next Thursday against Katy Taylor.
