Station 3+4 Summary

Thermometer: For this part, I put a thermometer facing light and a thermometer in the shade. I found out that the thermometer in the light, over time, had a higher temperature than the thermometer in the shade. This type of energy transfer was radiant energy to thermal energy. Radiometer: In this lab, we put a Radiometer in bright light. I found out that the radiometer started spinning faster when it was exposed to brighter and brighter light. This type of energy transfer is radiant energy, into thermal energy, then into motion energy. Solar panel: In this part, we put a solar panel attached to a fan and set it at different angles. I found out that the more direct the light was, the faster the fan spun. This type of energy transfer is radiant energy, into electrical energy, then into motion energy. Glow Toys: For this part, we put a set of glow toys in a pouch away from light, and another set of glow toys in direct light. I found out that the toys in the light glowed brighter than the ones in the pouch. This type of energy transfer is radiant energy into stored radiant energy. Hanger: In this part, I bent a metal hanger a few times. I found out that the hanger was warmer when I bent it than when I started. This type of energy transfer is motion energy into thermal energy. Rubber band: In this experiment I put a rubberband on my partners wrist and stretched it. I found out that my partner felt more heat when it was stretched, and cool when it was released because the molecules released and absorbed energy. This type of energy transfer is motion energy into thermal energy. Live wire: In this lab, I put a piece of live wire into hot water. I found out that the live wire turned back into its original shape because it remembers its original shape. This type of energy transfer is thermal
