The document discusses adaptations of respiratory structures. It describes internal or cellular respiration as the diffusion of oxygen into cells and carbon dioxide out. It notes key characteristics of respiratory structures are being moist, having a thin cell lining, and a large surface area. It explains small organisms like amoebas have a large surface area to volume ratio, a constantly moist plasma membrane, and a thin plasma membrane to facilitate rapid gas diffusion for their simple diffusion respiration.

Internal or Cellular respiration
Diffusion of oxygen into the cells and the diffusion of carbon dioxide out of the cells.
Characteristics of respiratory structures
The respiratory surface is moist. Cells lining the respiratory surface is thin. The respiratory structure has a large surface area.
Respiratory structures of Amoeba sp. (small organisms)
Have a large surface area compared to the volume of their body. Ensures that the plasma membrane is constantly moist. Moist plasma membrane respiratory gases can dissolve easily. Thin plasma membrane allows for rapid diffusion of gases.
