Unit of Inquiry

WHERE WE ARE IN PLACE AND TIME Central idea: Exploration has consequences and leads to new understandings.
As we continue nding out about explorers, their reasons for exploring and what new understandings have come out from different adventures, we are now looking how we ask questions that lead to meaningful answers and discussions. We investigated the difference between thick and skinny questions - how there is difference between question that can be answered with a yes or no, and how our perspectives and experiences make some questions and discussions rich with various opinions and ideas. Talk to your children about thick and skinny questions to help them develop their research skills. Explore different ways to start a question using: How, Why, Did, Have, Do, etc.

Maths

CCAs and ECAs start this week. If your child is part of any CCA/ECA, please make sure that pick-up arrangements have been made. Our spelling inquiry will focus on adding -s and -es to make plural words. We will work on our dictionary skills and practice alphabetizing words in ABC order. Before we move on to bigger numbers, we will improve our skills in subtracting numbers with regrouping. School website: www.chatsworth.com.sg! !

We are working to understand the concepts behind subtracting numbers with regrouping. We have been using base ten blocks to demonstrate why numbers have to be borrowed and how the borrowing takes place. When working on this with your child and he/she needs to regroup or borrow, please remind him/her to tap the tens (place value)s shoulder and borrow one ten. ! !
