    Georges Méliès' 1902 film A Trip to the Moon was one of the earliest science fiction films and depicted the comical adventure of astronomers traveling to the moon. As one of the first movies ever made, it had limited special effects, so Méliès designed elaborate sets by hand to imagine the lunar surface and create fantastical images. Though a short silent film, A Trip to the Moon was pioneering for its time and is still admired for Méliès' creativity in visualizing space travel with the technology available over a century ago.
