When I am in class and my teacher is talking to an adult or student, I am expected to raise my hand and wait until my teacher is ready to listen to me. He/She will call my name when my teacher is ready to listen.

When I am at a restaurant, I should wait until the waiter/waitress asks what I want before I order my food. I will order by telling him/her what I would like to eat followed by thank you.

If there are several people at the table I wait until the waiter/waitress looks at me, showing me he/she is listening to me, to order my food. communicationstationspeechtx.blogspot.com Page 5 When I am at an amusement park, I am expected to wait in line to ride the rides. I join the line in the back and follow the people in front of me until it is my turn to ride.

When I am in a public place and I am ready to leave, I am expected to wait for the adult who brought be to finish and leave with them. I SHOULD NOT leave without a familiar adult.

When I wait, my body should be calm, my hands should be by my side, and I should sit or stand quietly.

If I am feeling frustrated, I should tell the adult I am with that I am frustrated and ask for a break.

If someone is playing with a toy I want to play with, I can ask them Can I play with that toy when you are finished? Then, I should wait my turn for that person to be done playing with that toy.

When I am waiting for my friend to finish with the toy I want to play with, I can play with another toy, or I can watch him/her quietly until he/she is finished.

I do not cry, scream or grab toys from friends. I will say Thank You when I am handed the toy.

Waiting is a very important skill. When I wait quietly, I am telling my friends and family that I care about them and respect them and that makes all of us feel good!
