Essay 1
Background: Every year the University President personally selects each member of the President’s
Scholars incoming freshman class. President’s Scholars must meet high standards in
academic performance, community involvement, and overall contributions to the
university at large.
Essay: Why do you believe that you should receive this scholarship and be counted among the
“best of the best” at Cal State Fullerton next year? (Things to think about when
answering this question: What makes you stand out among your peers? How do your
academic accomplishments, leadership abilities, and volunteer activities qualify you to
be a Cal State Fullerton President’s Scholar?)
Essay 2
Essay: Do you participate in a school‐ or organization‐sponsored (e.g. YMCA, church group,
hospital volunteer program) service activity that is important to you?
If so, do you intend to continue this service activity during your studies at Cal State
Fullerton? Tell us what the service activity is, and how you plan to incorporate it into
your college experience. How will you involve the current students in the President’s
Scholars Program?
If not, is there a service activity that you wanted to be involved in during high school,
but did not have the time to pursue? Tell us why this activity is important to you, and
how your participation in this activity can make a difference at Cal State Fullerton.
Explain how you plan to involve the current students in the President’s Scholars
