ECONOMICS Knowledge and understanding Kate is able to explain the issue of scarcity and is beginning to understand the way that products are produced and distributed. She is aware of the limited nature of resources, and the role that she plays as a consumer. Reasoning and Interpretation Kate completed a report on an economic issue in the local community that demonstrated excellent research, and the use of an appropriate budget. GEOGRAPHY Knowledge and understanding Kate is able to identify the impact of natural processes on the environment (e.g. erosion, flooding and bushfires), and is beginning to develop her specific knowledge on the way these affect specific areas of Australia. She also identifies the human and physical characteristics of local community environments, Australian environments, and global environments. Geospatial Skills Kate has developed her map reading abilities, and can identify various features, and use them to describe distance, direction and places. HISTORY Knowledge and Understanding Due to her time spent overseas, Kates knowledge of Australian history is lacking in key areas. She is unable to sequence significant historical events in Australia. She has basic understanding of the key events such as European settlement and key people who were involved (such as Captain Cook). She is, however, very

capable of comparing the values and beliefs of different cultural groups over time, and her knowledge of various ancient cultures (such as Japan) is more than adequate. Historical reasoning and Interpretation Kate is very capable of developing and planning research questions and finds a good variety of sources for her assignments. She presents her information in a concise and appropriate way.
