Shaoquett Moselmane MLC

Member of NSW Legislative Council
21 SEPTEMBER 2012

Chinese Language Teachers Commended for Contribution to Multiculturalism Labor MLC Shaoquett Moselmane congratulated 39 Chinese language teachers for their services to multiculturalism last night at NSW Parliament House. "These men and women are at the frontlines of multiculturalism: breaking down the barriers within our community," he said. "Learning another language builds knowledge, and through knowledge you can overcome adversity." "I'm bilingual myself, and my own son is learning at least three as well. I believe that all children in New South Wales should be given the opportunity to learn a second language. Promoting language classes prepares our children for the future." Mr Moselmane awarded the teachers after they were recognised in Parliament last August when he moved a motion on awards presented to Chinese language teachers by Mr Duan Jielong, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Sydney on behalf of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of China State Council.
