OCTOBER
Our Week
Dear Parents, In your folder tonight is a letter explaining the Lexia reading program. The Lexia reading program is a software program that provides individualized practice on reading skills. We use this program in the classroom and you can also access Lexia at home. Please see the enclosed letter for more information and contact me if you have any questions. This week in religion we will learn about the Rosary. We will pray one decade of the Rosary and practice the Hail Mary prayer. We will color a picture with the Hail Mary prayer on it so students can take it home to help them practice this prayer. Remember to continue to take your child to Mass on the weekends. It helps prepare them for the school Mass on Wednesdays. In Math we will order numbers 0-10, identify a missing number, practice counting backward from 10 and identify ordinal position to fourth. In Reading we have finished our book on Alf and are now beginning to read about Doc. Doc likes to fix broken objects, especially toys. We will work on the following skills: associating pictures with the initial /d/ sound, forming the letters D and d, identifying capital and lowercase letters and following oral directions.

In Science, we will learn about fire safety. We will have visitors from the Aurora Fire Department come to discuss fire safety with us. We will also read our Weekly Reader, Gear, Up Firefighters! It will be a short, but interesting week! Have a great week, Mrs. Patsavas

Reminders
Thank you to all of the parents who sent in items for our birthday basket. The Draw Down will be this Saturday at 5:30pm. This is a great fundraiser for the school, so please plan on joining us that night! Please remember to return the red folder and the white home/school envelope to school to following day. Thank you! Progress reports will be going home tomorrow. Please sign the bottom of the top copy and return it to school. The top of the progress report and the stapled copies are yours to keep. One of the forms is a Superkid student record form. There is also the Superkid readiness test and the first Progress test attached. The Readiness test is a test we took the first full week of school and the Progress test was taken after we finished Unit 3. These tests allow you to see what areas you can help your child work on at home. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of these tests.
