What Is Red Ribbon Week?

Announcing National Red Ribbon Week In Trumbull October 22-26, 2012 ***********

Drug Enforcement Agent Enriqu Camarenas death created a worldwide rallying cry against drug abuse. Murdered by Mexican drug traffickers in 1985, his death mobilized the public and raised awareness of drug use and prevention. Red Ribbon Week has become a tribute to Agent Camarena and remains a time for gratitude for all the lives that remain drug-free and a time to pledge to live a safe and drug-free life. Activities in the public schools will include hanging posters, daily announcements, Wear Red Day, and distributing over 4,000 red ribbons and stickers to students where they pledge to respect their bodies and their peers. Red Ribbon Week is sponsored by the Trumbull PTSA Councils PACT Prevention Committee, in cooperation with Trumbull Public Schools, Trumbull Cares: The First Selectmans Prevention Council, and Trumbull High School SADD Club.
