Literacy

This term our work will include; Stories in Familiar settings Non-chronological reports Myths and Legends. Instructions.

Mathematics
This term in numeracy we will be developing strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; including pencil and paper jottings. We will applying these strategies to solving real life problems, such as those involving money. Children will be developing their awareness of place value and the properties of number, including fraction notation and equivalence. The children will also be learning about aspects of measurement, particularly length. This will progress towards calculating area and perimeter.

Science
The children will be developing their knowledge and understanding of shadow and light. We will be developing investigating skills to find out how Romans used sundials to tell the time. Children will later be looking at materials. .

This term we will be focusing spelling strategies, including sounding out, using phonemes and letter strings. Children will begin to develop cursive, fluent handwriting and will begin to edit their own work, checking for accuracy.

History
Our topic this term in History is the Romans. We shall be answering focus question such as: Who were the Romans? Why and when did they invade? Who was Boudicca? What happened in AD60? Why did the Romans win? We will be drawing upon evidence and artefacts, so children are welcome to bring any Roman information that they have to school. We have invited RAMM to bring a Roman workshop into school for the day. We will also be dressing up as a character from the Roman period and having our own Roman day.

Art Information Communication Technology


Children will be using Easikeyi to develop their typing skills and enriching Literacy and Maths through Education City. In Art we will be developing the use of pattern and colour. We will do this by looking at Roman mosaics and creating our own in a similar style.

DT
In Design Technology the children will learn how to make basic mechanisms using cardboard and these will then be incorporated into a pop up book.

Music
In Music we will be rocking out on a recorders! We will be learning to play simple chords together also be doing some rhythm work, using our bodies as musical instruments and singing some fun songs!

Physical Education.
Children will be developing their net skills. We will also swim while the pool is in use. We will also develop skills in gymnastics.

Religious Education. We shall be focusing on


the theme of Worship, Pilgrimage and sacred Places focusing on Christianity

Curriculum Enrichment We will have some exciting Roman based activity days which will involve dressing up as Romans.
