SOME METHODS
The main purpose of this project is to provide multipoint communication in scatternet among various bluetooth devices which are even out of range in piconet . This project is the min focus is to increase the range of coverage area of WPAN(wireless personal area network)
Cable replacement
Eliminates need for numerous cable attachments for connection
Ad hoc networking
Device with Bluetooth radio can establish connection with another when in range
1. Piconet 2. Scatternet
Can support up to eight devices When piconet is formed, one device acts as the master while the others act as slaves A piconet is sometimes called a PAN
Scatternet is
A scatternet is a type of ad-hoc computer network consisting of two or more piconet Bluetooth devices must have point-to-multipoint capability to engage in scatternet communication There may be a maximum of 10 fully loaded piconets in a scatternet Scatternet is a more recent use of Bluetooth
A set of two or more interconnected piconets form scatternets (More recent development)
A Bluetooth unit can be a slave in two or more piconets, but it can be a master in only one Devices that participate in two or more piconets may act as gateways, forwarding traffic from one piconet to another[comman node]
In order to extend the coverage area of WPANs the IEEE 802.15 standards introduce the concept of scatternet formation. The performance of a WPAN highly depends on the scatternet structure; therefore, it is important to investigate issues related to scatternet topology formation
Analytical approach
rely on Integer Linear Programming (ILP) to give an upper bound on the performance of the scatternet. two heuristical methods whose performance were compared against this upper bound 1) Downstream link. Master ! Slave: 2) Upstream link. Slave!Master: 3) Horizontal stream link. Slave ! Slave:
Practical Approach
realistic simulation analysis was performed by using an extended ns2 network simulator
To investigate the viability of our abstraction level used in the ILP-based and heuristic methods
If MVN method is used the first master is elected based on the highest number of links in the visibility graph. After the master is selected the respective slaves are connected to it. The rest of the masters are chosen from the already connected slaves, also based on the highest number of visibility links. This procedure repeats until all the nodes are connected to the scatternet.
The RN method is more a distributed approach. The first master is selected randomly. In the next step, based on the visibility graph, the maximum number of slaves are connected to this master. The rest of the scatternet is built based on the MVN method.
