Mayor Castro to face-off in cook-off

SAN ANTONIO The All-American Burger Festival expects to attract up to 6,000

festival-goers to the 1600 block of East Commerce Street on July 16, 2011. The celebration

of Americana just east of downtown features a special burger cook-off between Mayor Julin

Castro and Commissioner Tommy Adkisson.

Activities include a full day of entertainment celebrating Americas favorite food,

music and art. A bike show, a car show, an art exhibit, live music, a KidZone, awards and

scholarships, and even a burger-eating contest await the many families expected to attend

this free-to-attend street party.

We had almost 2,000 people attend last year and are expecting more this year,

said Mark Outing, owner of Fattys Burgers and More and host of this years festival. This

year marks the events second annual celebration.

An awards presentation highlights St. Philips College Culinary Arts Department along

with the Culinary Institute of America, San Antonio for their commitment to excellence in the

food industry, while a scholarship presentation highlights the two scholarship recipients for

2011, both St. Phillips College students.

The All-American Burger Festival assists in the revitalization of San Antonios east

side by bringing consumers east of downtown. It attracts the attention of a proud San

Antonio community to the rich historic atmosphere of the East-Town Entertainment District.
