The Nassau County Police Department is advising the public of traffic conditions and road closures due to the Presidential Debate being held at Hofstra University on October 16, 2012. Earl Ovington Blvd. will be closed between Hempstead Turnpike and Charles Lindberg Blvd. from 6 AM to midnight and commercial traffic will be diverted from Hempstead Turnpike between Oak Street and Merrick Ave during those hours. Motorists should expect delays on Hempstead Turnpike and nearby roads around Hofstra University and the Nassau Coliseum, and citizens are advised to avoid the area if possible or use alternate routes.

On Tuesday October 16, 2012, Hofstra University will be hosting the Presidential Debate. The Nassau County Police Department is advising the public of the following traffic conditions and road closures due to this event: Earl Ovington Blvd. will be closed to all traffic between Hempstead Turnpike and Charles Lindberg Blvd. from 6:00 AM until 12:00 AM midnight. No commercial traffic will be allowed on Hempstead Turnpike between Oak Street and Merrick Ave between the hours of 6:00 AM and 12:00 AM on the day of the debate. Westbound commercial traffic will be diverted at Merrick Ave and Hempstead Turnpike and eastbound commercial traffic will be diverted at Oak Street and Hempstead Turnpike. All lanes of Hempstead Turnpike will remain open to passenger vehicles. However motorists should expect periodic delays on Hempstead Turnpike and vicinity due to intermittent road closings throughout the day especially in the vicinity of Hofstra Universitys main entrance and the Nassau Coliseum. The Nassau County Police Department is advising that citizens avail themselves of alternate routes and should if possible avoid travel in the area of the Nassau Coliseum and Hofstra University on the day of the debate. Commercial traffic restrictions mentioned above will be effect from approximately 6:00 AM October 16, 2012 to approximately 12:00 AM October 17, 2012.
