Sandy Loam and Fine Sandy Loam soil appearance at several soil moisture contents.
1. 0-25% Plant available water. Soil is dry, forms a weak ball, no clay stain on fingers, soil particles easily break off ball.
2. 25-50% Plant available water. Soil is slightly moist, forms a weak ball with distinct finger marks, few soil particles break off.
3. 50-75% Plant available water. Soil is moist, forms a smooth ballwith strong finger marks, light clay stain on fingers, darkened color, a soil ribbon ("worm") can be made with thumb and fingers.

4. 75-100% Plant available water. Soil is wet, forms a soft, pliable ball with easy-to-see finger marks, medium to heavy clay stains on fingers, soil easily forms a ribbon ("worm") between thumb and fingers.
