    Dengue Fever

    What is Dengue Fever? A viral disease, caused by mosquitos, that starts with a very high-fever, intense headaches, joint/muscle pain, pain between the eyes, minor bleeding, in the gums and the nose, nausea, and rash. *Dengue can turn into Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever which is when you you have bleeding and shock and later death. *Found in Sub-tropical and Tropical areas What systems or organs does the disease affect and how does it affect them? -skin -muscles -head -blood vessels -your spleen and lymph nodes enlarge -some liver tissues die How is Dengue Fever diagnosed? When a person shows symptoms of: -severe headache -fever -eye pain -severe muscle pains -rash -high fever -bleeding from the nose, gums or under the skin You can take a blood test. *Dengue fever is hard to diagnose because most of the symptoms are common in other diseases such as, the West Nile Virus, and Chinkunguya fever. How to prevent Dengue -avoid mosquito bites buy using mosquito repellents -use mosquito nets -wear protective clothing (e.g. long pants and shirts) What Medical Treatments are there and how affective are they? -hospitalization -intensive care -plenty of rest -increased uid intake -Tylenol for body aches *treatments not that affective because the disease is new and doctors havent come up with a treatment yet *no vaccine or exact cure *most healthy people will recover from dengue after 2 weeks to a month
