How colorful are your lesson plans? Highlight components of your lesson plans using the chart below.

Component Color Reason Graphic organizers can help students organize and retain new information. In this category, you may include graphic organizers that are provided to students or those that students create. You may also include foldables that are designed to help students categorize notes and information. Working on task and problem based assessments now will help our students perform better on PARCC assessments later. In this category, the tasks are typically substantial in nature. Extended writing can help students synthesize information presented to them. In this category, you should include writing that is a paragraph or more in length. However, you should not include journal writing or free writing that is never assessed or discussed in class. Cross-curricular instruction reinforces skills and concepts taught in other subjects; builds connections. To highlight an activity in this category, you MUST be able to list the SPI or CCSS from the other subject. Each lesson has an I can statement or an essential question. In this category, you should only include activities that are designed to assess the I can statement or the essential question of the lesson. A pre-assessment should not be included, because a pre-assessment should have already been done to establish that the learning objective is appropriate for the students. Students need to be engaged with technology interactively. Examples: use of ActivExpressions, students manipulating information on the Promethean Board, students using Promethean Slate, students working on computers/iPads to create or complete an activity. Showing a video or using a PPT should not be included. Students need to be engaged in collaborative conversations with one another as well as be presenting information they have learned. In this category, do not include class discussions unless you can identify the CCSS for speaking and listening that is either introduced, practiced, or assessed.
