Film review

Plot: Goodbye High School, a Mariam Nawab film, is about a young girl called Olivia (played by Amy Dunn) who is about to leave year 13 and move onto university. However, at the end of her last day before she leaves her high school/sixth form, Olivia decides to take a moment and decides to reflect back on her school years, both good and bad. Director of this film, Mariam Nawab, is wellknown in the film industry, and has won several Oscar awards for her previous productions; her most recent success was The Grindylow, which recently won an Oscar award for best film of 2011. Although this is a strong contender for this years awards, it does lack the flare and imagination of her previous work. Goodbye High School does have potential to do as well as The Grindylow, however some think otherwise. Main actress Dunn

provides Nawab with a vehicle to reach the many teens out there, with her award winning acting skills. Goodbye High School does indeed conform to the stereotypical film about High School life. One of its successes is that it plays out various high school dilemmas for example, sitting on chewing gum, being ridiculed by your peers, and having it exposed on the internet. Having said that, it also succeeds in adding something new and refreshing to the Comedy-Drama genre, which is something that other current high school Comedy-Drama films lack. Overall, The Guardian, the Daily Mail, and The Sun have all rated Goodbye High School as a 3 star film.
